While we cannot guarantee that everyone will be inspired by every essay or poem, we can guarantee that every work is written by a child exploring his or her voice. Lift the Lid is more than an exercise in creativity; it is a place for underprivileged children to be heard.

You will receive a confirmation receipt for your donation via email from Lift the Lid. (Emails are kept strictly private and not shared with any lists.) 100% of donations go directly to our sponsored schools. Lift the Lid has a representative at each school to oversee the transfer and spending of donations, to take photos, and to document the school’s progress. Lift the Lid is a federal 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Our┬áTax ID number is 27-2974363.

“In the school there is a particular way of raising money, or even clothes, food, toys for different campaigns. This day is called “Non – uniform day”, so every student that comes to the school dressed without the uniform must bring anything that is established for that particular campaign. So in our case, they should bring at least 85 Kenyan Shillings (that is around $1 US dollar) to help Lenana Girls High School. So with the money raised a poem or an essay is send to whoever donated the funds.
