Bakeshop in a Cart!
We are constantly thinking outside the box at our schools, and at The School in a Cart in Quezon City, the Philippines, we’ve had to be extra creative throughout this pandemic. At The School in a Cart, we support street children in getting their education, and for the serious ones, through college. The key is keeping the children off the streets.
Prior to COVID-19, our reward for staying in school was the band. All the kids who came to the Center learned instruments or took voice lessons. It was amazing how quickly they learned songs and how eager they were to perform them! They played wherever we could book them, from malls and parks to churches and housing developments. Music kept the kids coming to the Center and subsequently attending school. The COVID lockdown and social distancing put all that on hold.
Baking became the new focus. In the following Thank You letters, RJ and Stephano explain what the Bakeshop in a Cart means to them. RJ is a recent high school grad and Stephano is a senior in high school. Both have ambitions to attend college. This project has given them and other students purpose and provided business training they’ll never forget!
