My Father’s Wish, by Dolphine Ifedha
Today Lift the Lid was praised by the Director of Common Ground for Africa and Lenana Girls High School in Kitale, Kenya. Joshua Machinga wrote, “the efforts of Lift the Lid, both small and big, have a meaningful impact on our school and in Kenya.”
We aim to positively influence the students lives and in turn their parents and community. So we say, once again, thank you to all our supporters!
One such supporter is the Kamansky family in Pennsylvania. Dolphine Ifedha shares with them a personal essay she wrote about a time when her father became very ill and she had to stay with a relative who abused her. She managed to get back home, and then to score well on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and earn a scholarship to Lenana Girls High School. She writes, “I thank God for all his mercies to my family. He has blessed us and he has been kind to us. That was my father’s prayers and they were answered.”
Thank you Kamansky Family. Because of you and all our donors, we can provide these scholarships, improve the schools we support, like Lenana, and inspire the students to reflect and write about their lives. Isn’t it perfect when helping others comes full-circle, and we’re inspired to love, be grateful, and give more.
Dolphine,
Congratulations on your essay being chosen for an Honorable Mention in Lenana’s 4th Annual Writing Competition sponsored by Lift the Lid. You have a factual style, and you don’t skip over the details. From reading your essay, I can see that you’re a confident writer. I look forward to reading more of your essays!
I hope your father’s health has improved. I’m sure you have brought both of your parents much comfort, love and joy.
