New Uniforms at The School in a Cart
In addition to the new ‘Washroom and Kitchen in a Cart,’ we were able to put your autumn 2013 donations toward new uniforms for the students of The School in a Cart in Cubao, the Philippines. Pictured above is Dianne Farinas receiving her new uniform with Principal Alfredo Olavidez in the background. Below are more proud students receiving and wearing their new uniforms. You may recognize some of their names from their essays and drawings.
THANK YOU to our donors for making the students’ writings (published under What’s Inside?) and these new uniforms possible. It was a happy day!
I’m so excited for all of you! You look wonderful in the new uniforms. I hope in this New Year you will all discover and enjoy the worlds reading and learning can open up. Enjoy every new discovery and stick with your studies. School is so important!
From your friend in America.
In addition to having only one set of uniforms, the families don’t have access to good laundry facilities, so the children’s uniforms become worn and stained easily. That’s what happened in the first 6 months of school year 2013. Their uniforms are already worn out, if not badly discolored. The new set, plus new rubber shoes, were a very welcomed surprise for the children. Thanks to all who made these children happy!
Our next move is a program which we hope will encourage the children to develop their love for reading. We will soon be setting up what we shall call, “Book and Toy Library in a Cart.” We had this before but when the 20th Avenue was flooded, our books and toys got wet and were destroyed.
We collected books and toys enough to re-start the program. Thanks Sara for the books you sent last year. We also got books from Don Foster of Siloam Christian Ministries and other friends from the US. We hope to get more books and toys. Thank you!
