Lenana Girls’ High School in Kitale, Kenya has lifted children out of poverty from Kitui, Makueni, the slums of Kibera, and Kajiado. Our goal is to assist as many girls as possible in moving from poverty to self-sufficiency. We hope you’ll support us in empowering motivated, intelligent Kenyan girls.
Through Lift the Lid, I’m in touch with a group called Namelok Girls of Gilgal Springs Foundation. Essentially, they’re a rescue plan for girls from very poor families that can not afford school. Namelok Girls gets information from the community, visits the girls’ homes, and helps them through a mentorship program. Those who are most needy, as well as committed to learning, are sent to Lenana, a safe and healthy environment in which to grow and learn.
Here are five of the 22 girls who will be starting at Lenana next month. The annual package per student is $500, which includes room/board, books, uniform, shoes, toiletries, lab equipment, and any extras that come up. We’re looking for donors and organisations to help us reach and support more girls to break the cycle of poverty paralyzing so many communities. Health, peace of mind, and an education are the only ways to have a long-term impact. Thank you!
