I’m grateful for you, Purity Momanyi, and for all the students who write for Lift the Lid and put every last drop of energy and hope into their education. Thank you for trusting me when I tell you to believe in yourselves…and to keep writing!

It makes me so happy to read your Thank You letter and to hear your enthusiasm for the competition. Just in the two years that Lenana Girls High School has submitted essays, I’ve seen an improvement in everyone’s writing. (You’re paying attention to my writing tips!) This past year I noticed the essays had stronger beginnings, clearer descriptions, and satisfying (complete) endings. Most important, I noticed that you all felt more free, more daring to each write from your heart!
Now that 2015 is here, we get to look forward to another competition. Whether or not you or the other entrants are chosen as winners, it is an accomplishment to try, and your essays will be published on our website and shared with donors.
