The Vegetable Lady, by Lindah Chebet
Many thanks, Rita, for your recent donation to Lenana Girls High School in Kitale, Kenya. Lift the Lid is able to improve the education of students living in poverty because of returning donors like you. Through the students’ essays, poems, letters, and photos, it is obvious that we’re making a difference in their lives and in their writing, as well!
From building new classrooms, donating sanitary cups, and providing nutritious lunches and award-winning books, to offering encouragement and showing how much we care, we are leading these students on a path to success.
Lindah Chebet writes in her essay “The Vegetable Lady”:
“On realizing what [the Vegetable Lady] had gone through, I became encouraged, because I was always loosing hope. I became encouraged and understood that in life there are many hardships that you must pass in before succeeding . . . in life you have to go a long way before succeeding.”
The path to a better life isn’t easy for anyone to follow, but we’re giving orphaned students and students living in severe poverty the tools, the learning, and the love they need to persevere. Many thanks!
Lindah, your essay about how the Vegetable Woman at the market influenced your life is unique and sincere, and I really enjoyed reading it! I loved how she asked you to sit down and started talking to you right away, that day you approached her for vegetables. The way you write, I could picture her vegetables and both of you talking. How wonderful that she is open to sharing her life story and inspiring others!
You are a very strong writer, Lindah, and I just know that you have a lot to offer others through your writing. I really hope to read another essay from you in this year’s Writing Competition at Lenana. Keep up your positive attitude, and life will surprise you with new opportunities and success!
