Support a School = Encourage Creativity
Lift the Lid, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that funds projects to support and develop the schools we sponsor and the students who attend them. Our schools are often the only hope for children brimming with talent and the desire to learn, and we place a particular emphasis on girls’ education.
In addition to our commitment to the schools, we believe encouraging the students to be creative instills confidence and hope. It also sends the message that we care. Sometimes that’s all it takes to reveal the hidden talent in children and to show them a better future.
Our two-fold mission, investing in the schools we sponsor, as well as the students by sharing their personal essays or poems, is a comprehensive, long-term approach to wellness and prosperity.
Our outreach includes: Kenya — Lenana Girls’ High School in Kitale, Mogonjet Secondary School in Kericho, and Keneni Academy Middle School in Kecheiyat. We also support The School in a Cart Children’s Center in Cubao, the Philippines, and Happy Family Children’s Village in Nkoaranga, Tanzania. We make visits and are in regular touch with our partners on the ground at each location.
Join us in our mission! When you give to one of our sponsored schools, you also show interest in a student’s work and receive a personal essay or poem.

Good Times from Lift the Lid
Lift the Lid’s 2020 Stay Positive Update
We’ve decided the best way to handle our concerns about the Coronavirus and the future of our schools and teachers is to remember our good times and recent accomplishments.
Our three Kenyan schools will not open until January, and they are facing financial needs as a result, but we’re staying positive and continuing to make plans. If you’re able to give, any amount, we’d be sincerely grateful.

Donate NowClimbing for Water – Namelok Junior Academy
I ski toured (uphill skiing) in Zermatt, Switzerland in order to raise $4000 to pipe clean water to Namelok Junior Academy in Kisamis, Kenya. This was a solo tour, climbing up to 13,000 feet, depending on conditions, and something I’d never attempted before. Your support meant a lot to me and everything to the 81 kids we support at Namelok Junior Academy through Lift the Lid.

Lift the Lid’s Mission
Since December of 2010, Lift the Lid has raised money for underfunded schools and has brought them out of obscurity by publishing the students’ writing.
How we support the schools in Kenya, Tanzania and the Philippines:
- Financially – All money raised by Lift the Lid goes toward the construction of classrooms and facilities, supplying textbooks, paper and pens, lunches, sports equipment and buses.
- Intellectually – For each donation made, Lift the Lid publishes a student’s poem or personal essay on our website and sends the link to the donor as a thank you.
We believe that financial support, coupled with the opportunity for self-expression, will allow students to realize and cultivate their talents.
