On Thursday, December 4th, I hosted Lift the Lid’s Classroom Construction Fundraiser for Keneni Stars Primary School at my home in Westport, CT. The evening was festive and full of excitement for LTL’s work, providing a quality education for underprivileged children in a nurturing environment. Keneni educates 240 students in grades K-6, using a holistic approach that fosters academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual development. Parents and the wider community are also involved in learning.

The Need: Complete construction of a three-story building with 10 classrooms, a science lab, a library, and teacher space to accommodate 400 students through 9th grade. We can then prepare our students to earn scholarships to quality high schools, beginning in 10th grade.
The Goal: Raise $65,000 to complete and furnish the entire building for the 2026-27 school year.
We are proud to say we’ve raised $35,115 so far, and donations are still coming in! Whether you donate $50 or $5000, it makes a difference. If you fund a classroom, we’ll honor your donation with a plaque. (See donation levels below.)
Our partners and heads of school, Joash and Phyllis Bii, create a joyful and loving environment for growing and learning every day at Keneni. When Lift the Lid started in 2010, we supported Joash in attending university. He earned his PhD and gave back to his community by opening Keneni Stars. This is how the ripple effect of our work goes far beyond what we can tally.
*100% of all donations go to our schools and students. We show highly motivated, disadvantaged kids that we believe in them and assist them in achieving their education. You’ll find secure options for making a tax-deductible donation here, and we’ll send you a student’s essay. Thank you!!
