Many thanks to Jane J. for supporting Lift the Lid in improving our sponsored schools and encouraging the students to realize their creative power through writing. Anneth Chepkemoi of Mogonjet Secondary School in Kericho, Kenya won an Honorable Mention in Mogonjet’s 5th Annual Writing Competition hosted by Lift the Lid. She’s happy to share her personal essay in return.

Anneth writes about a time when her friends led her into trouble with the police. The encounter turns violent, unfortunately, which may come as a shock to some readers. In the end, it is a lesson learned, and we’re grateful Anneth wasn’t hurt. She concludes, “From that day, I leant that being in bad company makes one’s life miserable. I leant that I should choose my friends wisely so as to succeed in life.”

Thank you to all our supporters. We hope you can take the time to read Anneth’s brave and thoughtful essay.
