We are so grateful to Staples High School student Ella Turner for leading a team of young journalists at Lenana Girls’ High School (Kitale, Kenya) in creating Lenana’s first school newsletter! Ella is giving our students the opportunity to write about what’s happening at their school, their fellow students’ achievements, and faculty members who go the extra mile. This is also an opportunity to put into practice the value of honest reporting, self-expression, and school pride.

Ella is not only teaching our students the fundamentals of journalism—including the difference between interviews, opinion pieces, and fact-based articles-but she is also assisting with the layout and engaging the team in the creative process of publishing a newsletter. We are proud to say that Lenana students know the power of good writing and are once again embracing the opportunity to hone their writing skills and let them shine. Thank you, Ella, for making this possible!!

The photos and slides are from Ella’s Zoom presentation on journalism. Stay tuned for Lenana’s first spring newsletter!
