After 4 years of hard work, Stephano Abalayan will ascend the stage at his school to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology. April 22nd is the big day. Stephano came to us at the School in a Cart in Metro Manila, Philippines, in 2014. A friend, JR, invited him to join our center for meals and school support, but he found much more. Stephano embraced Bible study from our director, Alfredo, the School in a Cart band, and our positive community. What a break from street life and poverty.
Since then, he has remained in school, actively participated in our programs, and even discovered a talent for the drums, playing in the School in a Cart band during numerous public performances. We dedicate this post to Stephano for his hard work and discipline. We’re proud of him for choosing college when he felt the pressure to take menial jobs for instant cash. We’re proud of him for persevering in his studies, year after year. We’re proud of him for showing his younger siblings and friends at the School in a Cart that achieving a college degree is possible and opens doors to a healthy, meaningful, and stable life.
CONGRATULATIONS, STEPHANO!!
Lift the Lid couldn’t do the work we’re doing without our donors, so thank you to all who help us support our students financially and encourage them to reach their fullest potential!
