Monicah Watiri of Lenana Girls High School

Lift the Lid is proud to announce the First Place winner of the 1st Annual Writing Competition at Lenana Girls High School in Kitale, Kenya. Monicah Watiri’s essay was chosen from the 11 participants who make up Lenana’s Pre-Form One class. The students in Pre-Form One range in age from 12 to 15 years. Monicah is 14 years old and writes about how she lost both her mother and then father in painful, unexplainable deaths. They would be especially proud of her today.
