What a week it has been! Five of our girls at Lenana Girls’ High School attended the Global Girl Leading Summit in London, England! Cheryl, Mitchell, Shanice, Maggie, and Esther applied by writing “Letters to Our Mothers” and were selected out of 300 entries. They made Lenana, their village of Kitale, Kenya, and Africa proud, presenting their work, reciting their poems, singing, and connecting with young leaders from around the world.

This was their first time traveling by plane, and you can see from the photos that they immensely enjoyed their experience in London. Maggie said, “Now I can dream bigger!” That is the intention of the Summit, exactly, to encourage ambitious girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to believe in their voices, their skills, and to dream bigger.

In addition to attending the summit, the students followed a five-day event-packed program of sightseeing, visiting schools, the theater, and trying British food. We are truly grateful for the Mulberry Schools Foundation and Mulberry Schools Trust, as well as Applied Stories, a UK-based audio drama production company, for making the Global Girl Leading Summit possible. Please enjoy our many photos and especially the videos of our girls reciting their beautiful poems.
