We’re thrilled to share these HAPPY photos with you! A young donor named Axel sent copies of his favorite magazine, The Week, to our kids at Keneni Stars Academy in Kecheiyat, Kenya, near Motigo Hills. We included the wonderful children’s story “If I Were a Tiger” by Caroline Coleman, a heartwarming story about replacing our fears with peace. The kids loved it all!
Debra, in grade two, wrote a Thank You letter, saying, “I am glad to get a scholarship… I am very happy to thank you for making sure that I fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot in the future… I will work hard in school.”
Abigael, seven years old, wrote back to Axel. “I also enjoyed reading ‘If I Were a Tiger.’ I am also scared of rats and spiders. Some nights I have nightmares but my mother prays for me. I wish you good luck in everything you do…”
We believe when children know that their words matter, they can achieve whatever they set their minds to and even make a difference in our complicated world. When they know they matter, they understand why their education matters…and life takes on new meaning!
Thank you for taking the time to read Debra and Abigael’s letters and for all your support over the years. With your help, Lift the Lid encourages and, in many cases, makes it possible for impoverished children to attend school.
*You’ll find secure options for making a tax-deductible donation here, and we’ll send you a student’s essay. If you’re interested in sponsoring a student and starting a pen pal, we’re happy to make that happen! Send me, Sara Goff, founder of Lift the Lid, an email at saragoff@saragoff.com.
