I Pray the Lord Will Give Them Strength, by Carla Santos

Playing in a band continues to have a huge impact on the children of The School in a Cart in Cubao, the Philippines. You can tell because they choose to write about their experiences learning new instruments, practicing, and performing in churches, schools, and now malls.
For many, this is the first time they’ve had a reason to feel truly proud of themselves. Talk about changing lives! We’re grateful beyond words for the anonymous donors who have made it possible.
Please read Carla’s essay, translated from Tagalog, below:

I am Carla. (My love letter.)
The first time I joined the program (at the Center), I did not realize that they are helping people. That is why I am thanking the Lord Jesus.
I was scared when we performed at Ali Mall on Sept. 22, 2016. I am thankful for Teacher Nonie and Kuya (Big brother) Iddo. I pray that the Lord will give Teacher Nonie the strength to cook and to wake up every morning.
We will not get tired coming to the Center. I am thankful for the bag, notebooks, ball pen, and uniform which they gave.
Carla,
Congratulations on all your performances, all of them a success! You are courageous and determined to learn the music and share your voice with so many others!
We are so grateful for your essay, and we’re glad to know that you want to continue to go to the Center and hopefully to school, as well. They will care for you and guide you in the right direction…toward a happy and purposeful life!
Sara
Dear Carla, what a lovely essay! I am so glad you are part of the center and the children’s band. Please never give up on your studies or on learning all you can. Enjoy the music and share it with your whole heart. We are cheering you on from here.
Approve.
