My Story, by Rachael Memeti

Caroline Coleman, a member of our Board of Directors at Lift the Lid, made a significant donation to our schools. Thank you, Caroline! Rachael Memeti of Lenana Girls High School is happy to share her essay in a show of appreciate.

Rachel submitted her work to Lenana’s First Annual Writing Competition sponsored by Lift the Lid and received a much deserved Honorable Mention. She is 14 years old and writes about when she was kidnapped from her home and forced to work for another family as their a maid. Amazingly, Rachael escaped back to her family and then was given a sponsorship to attend Lenana Girls High School.

She excelled her first year at Lenana and scored high in the national exams. Unfortunately, Rachael cannot continue her studies at Lenana because she has to care for her grandmother, who is ill and alone. Rachael will attend a local school, but it won’t be as progressive and nurturing as Lenana Girls High School. We hope her path will lead back to Lenana one day.
