The First in her Family to Reach High School; Scholarships Make a Difference
Pauline Chesang
Lift the Lid has received many Thank-Yous from Lenana Girls High School in Kitale, Kenya this fall. We gave 30 students Mooncups, reusable sanitary cups that will last into adulthood, and now we have been able to sponsor two more students who had arrears of unpaid fees and were facing the possibility of stopping their high school education to work.
Lenana Girls High School does its best to keep its girls in school, but cannot offer full scholarships to everyone. The worst scenario is when a student has to put her education on hold in order to take a low-paying job, if she can find one, to pay her fees. A generous donation from Caroline Coleman made two sponsorships possible.
Pauline Chesang and Dorcas Kwamboka will complete their secondary education uninterrupted and are truly grateful!
Below is an amazing personal essay, a testament to hard work and perseverance, by Pauline. She’s the first in her family of seven siblings to reach high school, and she plans on being the first to reach college, too! She and Dorcas have also written thank you letters.
Pauline and Dorcas,
I am so happy for you both that this scholarship has finally been made possible! I know you will dedicate yourselves to your studies and future careers and make great contributions to your families and communities and maybe even the world. Most important, this opportunity can give you an exciting life, full of purpose and love.
