I Sing from My Heart, by Steven Abalayan (aka MacMac)
Steven Abalayan, fondly called MacMac, is age 10 and one of seven male siblings. His mother washes clothes for a fee and his dad drives a taxi tricycle earning about PhP150 ($3.40/£2.25) a day. They have a little room rented in a depressed area in Project 4, Cubao. His two eldest siblings graduated from high school sometime ago and this encourages him to continue to study. He ranks seventh in his class of about 40!
MacMac might not always sing in tune, but he puts his heart into it. Others enjoy watching him sing just for this reason. We know his pitch will improve as he continues to practice and sing in the Children Christian Band in a Cart. Below, he shares his thoughts on learning to sing:
The Children Christian Band in a Cart currently has one trained keyboard player, so MacMac is trying it out in order to be their backup. Since he is determined to learn music, and in general gives his all to any task, we have high hopes!
MacMac, I can see how proud Principal Alfredo and Teacher Nonie are of your effort in learning to sing and play the keyboard. They want to give you more opportunity to learn and play in the band. Whatever you do in life, give your all, and more opportunity will come to you.
Macmac is a very playful fellow. He is always the life in any party he gets into.
I simply am glad he is trying to learn to play the keyboard. Allan will pursue training him if found to be really interested and has potentials.
I pray that at the right time he will come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am reminded of the Lord’s exhortation, “Let the children come to me . . . .”
It is wonderful to hear that you put your all into whatever you do! Learning to sing or play an instrument always involves making mistakes and then learning a little bit more as we keep practicing. But it does get easier and become more fun as you get better at it. Keep smiling, keep learning, keep doing your best.
