The Woman I Admire, by Pauline Chesang
Thank you, Lisa, for your donation to Lift the Lid and specifically to Lenana Girls High School in Kitale, Kenya
We have been working to build a science lab for this amazing school that focuses on the education of underprivileged girls who have performed well on Kenya’s national exam, despite countless hardships. Lift the Lid has been a supporter of Lenana since the day it opened its doors and have since sponsored many young women to persevere with their education and their dreams for a better future.
In Pauline’s touching essay about her role model, her aunt, she writes, “Sometimes life might seem so hard, indeed, but surprisingly it turns again, all of a sudden, into a positive part of it.” We’re happy to share her writing with you and all our donors. It is clear that Pauline has a lot to offer this world.
Pauline, you write from your heart, which makes your essay personable and sincere. It also makes your writing come alive. I remember being picked on in the fourth grade; it was a hard year, but only one year, which is nothing compared to what some kids endure with bullying. I clearly remember that difficult year, which makes me think it built character and made me a stronger person today. I hope you can look at your challenges the same way…they will pass and they will make you a better person.
I’ve enjoyed all your writing this year — Congratulations on being an Honorable Mention winner in Lenana’s 3rd Annual Writing Competition — and I look forward to reading a lot more of your work!
